Homemade Sunflower Seed Butter
Recipe from Eating Bird Food
Nut or seed butters are the easiest way to get some protein into my kiddos, who view most meat and beans as poison. Many commercial nut and seed butters contain extra ingredients to extend their shelf lives, and you can make your own at home with just 3-4 ingredients! Try it today and come back next week to try the sunflower seed butter in a new 2 minute snack!
- 2 cups roasted sunflower seeds - Smile Link
- 2 teaspoons pure maple syrup - Smile Link
- 1 teaspoon vanilla - Smile Link
- 1 teaspoon sea salt (optional, only use if seeds are unsalted)

Place the sunflower seeds in your food processor or blender and process for 9-10 minutes. If the mixture is still dry and thick, process a little longer. You want the oils to release and the seed butter to thin out.
Add in maple syrup, vanilla and sea salt (if using). Pulse to combine, then turn machine off and remove the sunbutter with a spatula.
Jar it up and store in the fridge!
