Ocean Sensory Pool

Here is an awesome summer activity for kids that’s cheap and easy to do: an ocean sensory pool! You can tailor this activity to things you already have in your pantry and toy-box in order to keep costs down. We didn't buy anything especially for this activity!

  • Spaghetti
  • Green food coloring

Purchasing with Amazon Smile enables The AmazonSmile Foundation to donate 0.5% of the purchase price from your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to a charity of your choice.

Step 1

A few easy steps will give you hours of entertainment! First I boiled a package of spaghetti for 10 minutes with green food coloring.

Step 2

Rinse it off and you have “seaweed!”

Step 3

I took our plastic pool outside and added all of our ocean-themed bath toys and some sand toys as well. Then I added in the “seaweed” and a handful of salt to make the water smell and taste more like ocean water. It doesn’t hurt that it also discouraged my youngest from drinking the water.

Step 4

I let the kids fill up the pool and play!

Step 5

They played for a few hours in the morning, came in during the hottest part of the day, and returned to the pool in the early evening for more fun.

Step 6

We talked about the things they experienced with their 5 senses while they played.

Step 7

Have fun!
