ASD Connections

At ASD Connections we work with families who are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders. Our goal for each person we work with is for them to be as independent as they can be. Through a research based model of intervention, we help those with ASD enter a pathway of neurological development that was disrupted or they failed to enter. At ASD Connections we use RDI - Relationship Development Intervention. It is a family-centered, comprehensive program that works to restore the natural parent/child relationship where it has never formed or has been disrupted. Through our work together, the developmental holes can be filled and relationships restored.

BridgingApps is a volunteer community of parents, therapists, doctors, and teachers who share information on how we are using the iPad®, iPhone®, iPod Touch® and Android® devices with people who have special needs. We have found these mobile devices to provide accessibility for people who may have been previously disengaged from the world because of challenging language, motor, or other developmental delays. Given the rising number of apps on the market and the diverse skills of children and adults with special needs, parents have found each other to be one of the best resources for choosing apps to enhance everyday life for our children of all ages. While our group is primarily parent-driven, our efforts are naturally collaborative with the people who help people with disabilities develop particular skills — therapists and educators. Open Lab Days Each AT lab has Open Lab Days open to the public for visitors to explore a variety of assistive technology, including adapted toys and switches, specialized software and computer equipment, communication devices, and mobile devices and apps. Volunteers and staff are available to answer questions; however, individualized support is limited depending on the number of participants. For more information on your local AT Lab events and services, please see the individual lab information above or contact us. Individual Lab Appointments Individualized lab appointments with ESGH AT&T Lab staff are available for a fee, and can provide more in-depth information about equipment than open labs or open houses. Appointments are geared towards a client's individual needs for assistive technology. These appointments are available for one on one help, but not intended to be a full and documented assessment. Mobile Device Services ESGH's BridgingApps program offers services specific to mobile device users. The first is an app matching service, which is done at different levels and can be based on a client's IEP, family goals, or classroom goals. The second is a comprehensive service that helps clients create a plan for the purchase and effective use of a mobile device. Workshops and Training ESGH AT&T Lab staff can provide informational or in-depth training sessions for your staff to learn more about adapted toys and switches, specialized software and computer equipment, communication devices, and mobile devices and apps.

The safety of our students is a top priority. All school staff, substitutes, and after-school providers are background checked and fingerprinted. Our low student-to-teacher ratio, coupled with teacher expertise, further students' successes in our challenging, multi-sensory program. The elementary students begin and end the week with a chapel service. Each service is an opportunity for the students to worship, pray, and enjoy Christian music together. During chapel they study church history, Bible heroes from the Old and New Testaments, and the life and works of Jesus Christ. Each child has the opportunity to serve as an acolyte during a service. The children begin learning Bible verses as bridge students and continue throughout their elementary school years. Prayers, verses and affirmations of faith are discussed and offer students a foundation of faith that help them develop strength of character.

Students with disabilities learn best when receiving the special education services and supports they need in settings with their non-disabled peers. For this to be a reality for the more than 400,000 students in Texas eligible for special education services, school districts must fully implement both the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and No Child Left Behind (NCLB), the Texas Education Agency must identify and correct noncompliance, parents must know and exercise their rights, and the state must adequately fund special education. Our efforts to improve educational opportunities for students with disabilities include: •Helping to create integrated classrooms where students with disabilities learn alongside students without disabilities •Assisting students with disabilities in receiving the assistive technology and training required for their success in school •Ensuring that students are not disciplined, restrained or secluded because of a disability •Assisting students in receiving the transition services needed to prepare for life after school •Raising awareness among parents, advocates and policy makers so they have all the information they need to ensure the successful education of students with disabilities

North Austin Music Therapy
Austin
512-422-9694
Contact: Meredith Hamons North Austin Music Therapy provides excellence in individual music therapy sessions in the treatment of Autism. Music therapy is an evidence-based and goal-directed process that uses music to address non-musical needs and improve functioning in such areas as cognition, communication, motor skills, social skills, and mental and emotional health. Music therapists use an assessment process to determine a patient's needs or areas of needed improvement, in addition to identifying a patient's strengths. The music therapist then develops specific musical interventions to achieve those non-musical goals through active engagement in music. Music therapy offers a unique approach to treatment as music stimulates all areas of the brain simultaneously. Music's effect on the brain helps to prompt engagement and higher attention to task, provides important cues for cognitive exercises and memory recall, and also helps to regulate movement and motor function. Music-based interventions are easily adaptable and since they allow for personal preference, they often feel less clinical, are very enjoyable, and subsequently can be highly motivational. The emotional component of music allows therapists to connect with clients and reach them on a personal level, making it an ideal approach.

SpiritHorse Therapeutic Center
1960 Post Oak Rd
Corinth
940-497-2946
After volunteering for 5 years at a Dallas-area Equine Therapy center, Charles Fletcher founded SpiritHorse in 2002 offering one-on-one therapeutic riding, free of charge, to children and adults with disabilities. At this time, there were no specific industry methods that addressed such a wide range of diagnoses. Mr. Fletcher's primary concern was to develop a healthcare program to fulfill SpiritHorse' mission "To Assist Individuals with Special Needs in Reaching Their Full Potential Through Interaction with Horses." Equine therapy aides in many ways. In a natural environment, SpiritHorse' equine-assisted therapy is an organic combination of speech, physical and relationship-building therapy. This therapy builds a variety of skills: ? Balance & coordination ? Flexibility & core muscle strength ? Sequencing ? Speech & communication ? Neuropsychology Consultants

McKinney
214-585-0584
We specialize in neuropsychological evaluation for the purpose of understanding how a person's mind works, how they see the world and how they see themselves. We look for their strengths and weaknesses in terms of their cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral functioning. We see many individuals, including children, adolescents, and adults, whose neuropsychological profile is consistent with presence on the Autism Spectrum. This includes those who may have been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in earlier versions of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM). As a result of our evaluation, we are able to make recommendations for the individual, their family, their physician, and their school, including specific accommodations that may improve academic performance. We also make referrals for services such as social skills groups, counseling, support groups, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and financial support, as appropriate. Most importantly, as a result of this process, we are able to provide guidance to others in understanding their loved one's needs and how to support them so that they may strive towards their ultimate potential and maintain a high quality of life. We are in-network providers for BCBS, Cigna, Aetna, and Medicare.

Do you have a special needs child or know someone who does? Well, I want you to know that I do... and I know just how nervous you are about having a portrait session of your child and family. I want to encourage you to not let your anxiousness hinder you and I want you to know that I am here to help. I want to capture the beauty of your child and for you to have those memories that you so deserve. I will work with your family to make it as comfortable and easy as possible, including in-home, lifestyle sessions or wherever your child is most at ease. If we need extra time, extra helpers, a specific setting... it can all be done and done beautifully. We will start with a consultation over the phone to see what is the best scenario for your family. I'll be sure to work around your busy schedule and take care of the little details so you don't need another "thing" on your plate. I believe EVERY child and family deserve beautiful portraits and will do my best to make that happen for you.

At Archer Consulting, we work with families to develop their lifetime plan for their child or family member with special needs. Most firms use some variant of the Standard Planning Model to analyze an individual's or family's financial and lifestyle requirements from which recommendations will be developed. At Archer Consulting we use two models… the Standard Planning Model and the unique Special Needs Planning Model. The integration of the two models takes the plans that we create to a new and higher level of effectiveness. It ensures the best of all possible outcomes.

Rebecca A. Weiner, M.Ed. is a dynamic and passionate professional dedicated to serving children and families as an educational consultant and developmental interventionist. Her professional mission is to help children and families learn, play, and grow to success at school, at home, and in the community. Rebecca's private professional services include in-home or community-based learning and play enrichment, positive behavior supports, and family education and empowerment. Collaboration with families usually begins with an initial in-home consultation during which Rebecca observes and reflects on language, play, environment, and social dynamics. The next step is setting goals together. What is your vision of and for your child as an individual, a part of your family, a member of your community? With these observations, reflections, and visions in mind, Rebecca works together with your team to create a program of learning and play enrichment through which positive behavior is supported and your family is educated and empowered with a tool box of strategies in context.

Open Door Pediatric Therapy
13325 Hargrave Rd Suite 250
Houston , TX
713.352.8090

We offer speech therapy, feeding therapy (we have a feeding specialist), physical therapy, and occupational therapy.

We have an open concept atmosphere to really make therapy functional. We understand rote table work is not motivating and as successful as floor-time and child guided approaches. We have a special appreciation for caregivers. We encourage them to come back for therapy to skill teach. We want the caregivers to have the power and be mini therapists at home. We also understand how busy life can get with a special needs child. We offer free snacks, coffee, water, wifi, tablets for siblings to play on in the waiting room, and massage chairs for the parents. We want to give them a mini break when they come in; they deserve it.

Our therapy rooms include, fun factory sensory gym, multisensoory snoezelen room, theme room, fine motor room, art room, family room, and feeding room.
